The Joshua Tree

Like Walt Whitman, the Joshua Tree contains multitudes. With enthusiasm unmitigated by its harsh surroundings, it reaches out in eight, ten, fifteen directions at once, each limb empowered to pursue its own form of truth, each tree a celebration of individuality and self-expression. A very California tree.*

*Though of course it’s not a tree at all, but a yucca.
